Steve Jobs admired Sony’s Miyake-designed uniform and asked the designer to create a vest for Apple, but employees rejected the idea. Jobs and Miyake became friends, and Jobs embraced the concept of a personal uniform for convenience and identity. Miyake made him about a hundred black turtlenecks, which Jobs wore daily and which became his iconic look.
